The origin of our loofah sponges from Galicia: from plant to sponge

Every loofah sponge has a story — from field to bathroom. Behind every one of our loofah sponges is a real story. A story of sustainable farming, thoughtful craftsmanship, and a region where nature and tradition go hand in hand. Join us on a journey to Galicia, Spain — the place where our loofah plants take root.

Galicia – the green cradle of our loofah

Our loofah products come from Galicia, one of the greenest regions of Spain. Located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, this area offers a mild Atlantic climate, fertile soil, and lush vegetation — the perfect conditions for growing the loofah plant.

The maritime climate provides pleasantly mild winters, not-too-hot summers, and consistent humidity — ideal for growing healthy plants and strong fibers. Our sponges ripen slowly, making them especially durable and long-lasting.

Our farm is located about 45 kilometers from Santiago de Compostela — right along the famous Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James). Every day, pilgrims from all over the world pass by our fields, bringing a touch of international flair to this deeply traditional region. The peace, climate, and history of the area are reflected in the care we take in growing and crafting our loofah sponges.

Sustainable cultivation with responsibility

We practice organic agriculture — not as a trend, but as a philosophy:

  • No chemical fertilizers or pesticides

  • Soil care that respects the natural balance

  • Responsible water use in harmony with the seasons and weather

Many of our fields were once used for vineyards. Rather than leaving them unused, we’ve repurposed them for loofah cultivation. This allows the land to remain productive — sustainably and in balance with its surroundings.

The loofah plants grow on trellises, much like grapevines, and are monitored regularly. After harvest, the fruits are opened by hand, deseeded, and rinsed with clean water — with no industrial additives whatsoever.

Traditional processing – true craftsmanship

After cleaning, the loofah fruits are gently dried in the sun. The fibers are then sorted, smoothed, and cut by hand to the appropriate size. Each sponge is handled with care — ensuring you receive a high-quality, long-lasting natural product.

Our sponges are extremely versatile: perfect for daily body care, exfoliation, wellness routines, or cleaning around the home. They are gentle on the skin, effective for cleaning, and fully biodegradable.

Local, fair, and future-focused

Our loofah production is not only an eco-friendly alternative to plastic products — it also supports local jobs. We work closely with regional farmers and artisans, preserving traditional knowledge and strengthening the rural economy.

Short supply chains, fair conditions, and genuine respect for people and nature — that’s not a slogan for us, it’s how we operate every day.

Conclusion: Origin with purpose

A loofah sponge from our farm is not a mass-produced item. It’s a thoughtfully crafted, natural tool for your daily life. Whether for cleaning, skincare, or a gentle wellness ritual — our sponges combine function, quality, and sustainability, bringing a piece of Galician nature straight to your home.
